HCS 3000 & AGR 3000 Course Completion – Setting Students Up for Success Early!

Over the past two days, all of our Grade 10 students, along with a few Grade 11 and 12s, completed a one-day course to earn their HCS 3000 and AGR 3000 credits!

These courses are essential prerequisites for:

  • The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
  • Work Experience
  • The Green Certificate Program

At our previous School Council meeting, the importance of students completing these prerequisites early in high school was highlighted. Getting started early means students can begin earning credits sooner and gain access to real-world learning experiences outside the classroom.

That message was heard loud and clear

Our administration took immediate action to ensure these courses were in place right at the start of the school year.

A huge thank you to Mrs. MacDowall and Mr. Phelps for collaborating with Northwestern Polytechnic, and to Rachel Lepka from NWP for spending two full days with our students, delivering engaging lessons on workplace safety.

Each student who participated has now earned two high school credits—one for HCS 3000 (Workplace Safety Systems) and one for AGR 3000 (Agriculture Safety). These foundational courses provide essential knowledge in:

  • Workplace health & safety
  • Alberta workplace legislation
  • Employer and employee responsibilities
  • Safe work practices

By completing these courses early, our students are now better prepared to explore off-campus learning opportunities and take their first steps toward future careers.

Program Participation at Fairview High (2023–2024):

  • 36 students in Work Experience
  • 2 students in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
  • 6 students in the Green Certificate Program

We’re proud of our students—and with this year’s early start, we look forward to seeing even more students get involved! ????????????
